About NAR: Guide to the National Assessment Resource

The National Assessment Resource (NAR) is designed to support assessment in practice.

Created by Education Scotland (formerly Learning and Teaching Scotland), the Scottish Qualifications Authority and the Scottish Government, NAR is an online resource that supports assessment approaches for Curriculum for Excellence.

NAR is also a key component of the assessment framework described in Building the Curriculum 5.

This introductory video and poster explain more about NAR and the functionality available to practitioners to find, upload and create assessment materials.

Guide for educators

One of the key purposes of NAR is to support practitioners in developing a shared understanding of standards and expectations for Curriculum for Excellence and how to apply these consistently.

NAR will initially support assessment approaches for learners aged 3-15 by providing:

  • Quality-assured examples of a wide range of assessment approaches and evidence
  • Literacy and Numeracy materials developed by SQA.

Use this guide to explore the content, online tools and functions available on NAR.
